Seeds of Knowledge (The Basics)

  • At the moment, our morning pods are specifically designed for children in Kindergarten through 2nd-grade (ages 5 to 8). This multi-age window is the absolute sweet spot for collaborative, project-based learning and social growth.

  • We offer two distinct, part-time morning pods:

    • Monday & Wednesday Pod: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

    • Tuesday & Thursday Pod: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

    Our daily rhythm starts with morning encouragement, academics, nature exploration, and project work.

  • To keep our instruction highly individualized and intimate, we cap each morning pod strictly at 12 students.

  • We have two dedicated age groups focused on foundational, active learning:

    • Learning Garden #1: Kindergarten — Focused on cultivating early roots, building foundational skills, and fostering a love for discovery.

    • Learning Garden #2: First and Second Grade — A collaborative, multi-age environment where students deepen their academic skills through real-world projects.

  • Each Learning Garden regularly works and plays together! While they have dedicated times for focused, age-appropriate learning, our gardens merge throughout the morning. They come together for our morning and closing circles, outdoor nature exploration, and collaborative project times. This allows older students to practice leadership and mentoring, while younger students learn naturally from their older peers.

  • While we love nature and spend plenty of time outside exploring, we also utilize an indoor setting. Our mornings are a balanced mix of both worlds. We use our indoor time for focused, teacher-led lessons, quiet reading, and core academics. When it's time for nature study, active play, or hands-on projects, we head outdoors to get some fresh air and let our imaginations run wild.

Cultivating Character & Curriculum (Values & Learning)

  • Each day blends early elementary academics with immersive, hands-on exploration. Our K–2 curriculum includes:

    • Core Subjects & Themes: Foundation-building in phonics, math, writing, and fine motor skills, alongside engaging units covering seasons, holidays, life cycles, and community helpers.

    • Nature & Play: Seamlessly integrated outdoor exploration and creative play to support physical and social-emotional growth.

    • Enrichment Activities: Regular participation in age-appropriate project-based learning, science experiments, and art.

  • Not at all! You have total flexibility. During our program, we teach a comprehensive curriculum that dives deeply into core academics, nature, and hands-on projects. We cover the core essentials during our time together so you can relax knowing their bases are covered. However, if you still want to teach core academics on your days at home, you are more than welcome to. You get to decide exactly how much or how little you want to take on!

  • We will use a variety of curriculum. Math with Confidence for math, The All About Reading for language arts, Brave Writer for writing, and Blossom and Root for science/nature study.

  • We believe that values are best taught through how we treat one another and the world around us. While our daily academic lessons are non-sectarian, our community is built on foundational values like kindness, respect, honesty, and gratitude. We encourage children to care for one another, show appreciation for the natural world, and grow in character through hands-on collaboration and daily peer interactions.

  • No, not at all! We welcome families from all backgrounds and beliefs who feel aligned with our hands-on, nature-based approach to learning.

    While we are a non-denominational program and do not use a formal, church-based curriculum, our community is built on a foundation of Christian values. This means that gentle elements like prayer, talking about God's creations during nature exploration, and the joyful celebration of holidays like Christmas and Easter are a natural part of our daily rhythm. We focus deeply on cultivating a grace-filled space centered on kindness, gratitude, and character, and we love welcoming any family who feels comfortable sharing in that warm environment.

Sunshine & Rain (Logistics & Weather)

  • This is a full drop-off program. You can enjoy a predictable, productive 3-hour window for errands, work, or one-on-one time with other siblings while your child learns in a professional studio environment.

  • We love outdoor exploration, but safety and comfort always come first! On days with light rain or snow, we still bundle up and head outside for a bit of fresh air and active discovery. However, if the weather gets too heavy, freezing, or stormy, we shift our entire schedule indoors to keep everyone warm, dry, and safe while we focus on our core academics and hands-on projects.

Deep Roots (Enrollment)

  • Our program operates as a part-time instructional program exempt from child care licensure under Virginia Code § 22.1-289.030(B)(2). Because no individual child attends our program for more than 6 hours per week, licensing is not required.

  • Not on its own. Because we operate as a homeschool support program, you will still need to register your child as a homeschooler with your local school division. Our morning sessions are designed to beautifully support your homeschooling journey, and we are always here to help you navigate the process!
